{"id":68,"date":"2009-02-21T20:33:28","date_gmt":"2009-02-22T02:33:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mylifewithdogs.com\/?p=68"},"modified":"2009-02-22T20:57:43","modified_gmt":"2009-02-23T02:57:43","slug":"bandit-seizure-log","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mylifewithdogs.com\/?p=68","title":{"rendered":"Bandit &#8211; Seizure Log"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unfortunately,\u00c2\u00a0 Bandit had a series of seizures after I returned from WV.\u00c2\u00a0 The seizures started at 7:50 a.m and he actually had the seizure in bed with me.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The other dogs seem to know to stay away.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_69\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-69\" title=\"Bandit\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mylifewithdogs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/p2060096-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Baby Bandit\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mylifewithdogs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/p2060096-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.mylifewithdogs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/p2060096-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.mylifewithdogs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/p2060096.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-69\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Baby Bandit<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The seizure was short, but it is the recovery that is long.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I helped him out of bed and he stumbled around while I followed him.\u00c2\u00a0 He went into the bathroom, then fell down and had a second seizure.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 He started to come out of it, then he went into a third seizure.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I called the emergency vet clinic, and they said I should bring him in.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I called Lilia to help me carry him to the car.<\/p>\n<p>When she came over, Bandit had again started recovery.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 He paced and stumbled, but he did not have another seizure.\u00c2\u00a0 I decided not to take him to the hospital, but I gave him some extra phenobarbital.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The entire episode lasted nearly one hour.<\/p>\n<p>I called the Yorkville Animal Hospital, and they said he did not have any seizures when he was there.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Then, they said something that made sense &#8211; they said that after he has been excited or stressed, when an epileptic dog gets back to his calm home situation, that is when they have seizures.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This has been the pattern &#8211; after Bandit has been excited, i.e. he is boarded somewhere while I am on a trip, when he gets home, he has the seizure!\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 His neurologist did say to give him additional phenobarbital when he is in a stressful situation.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I guess I didn&#8217;t think that boarding him at the Yorkville Animal Hospital would stress him.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 But, now I know better&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The whole rest of the day, Bandit followed me around &#8211; even more than usual.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It was so funny &#8211; I would stand up and walk a few steps, with Bandit at my side.\u00c2\u00a0 I stop &#8211; he stops.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I walk a few steps, Bandit walks a few steps.\u00c2\u00a0 I stop, he stops!\u00c2\u00a0 It was so funny!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unfortunately,\u00c2\u00a0 Bandit had a series of seizures after I returned from WV.\u00c2\u00a0 The seizures started at 7:50 a.m and he actually had the seizure in bed with me.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The other dogs seem to know to stay away.
